Slate is an Android application offering customizable home screen widgets and an ambient desk standby display. Features include clocks, weather forecasts, battery and device telemetry, interactive shortcuts, and docked screen saver modes.
We believe your home screen setup and daily routines should remain private. Slate is built with a local-first philosophy: all widget preferences, configurations, and personal layouts remain on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
By installing or using Slate, you agree to the practices outlined in this policy. This policy is effective as of October 2026.
Device & System Telemetry: To display live battery percentages, RAM usage, storage stats, and charging status on your widgets, Slate reads system vitals directly on your device. This data is processed in memory and never transmitted externally.
Location Data (Optional): If you use weather widgets, Slate requests access to your device's location solely to fetch accurate local weather forecasts from standard weather providers. Your location is never logged, tracked, or tied to your personal identity.
Calendar & Contacts (Optional): If you add calendar agenda widgets or speed-dial contact widgets, Slate reads your local calendar events and selected contact names and avatars to display them. This data is read strictly on-device to power the widget shortcut.
Physical Activity (Optional): If you use pedometer or step-tracking widgets, Slate accesses Android sensor and activity data locally to display your daily step counts.
Media & Notifications (Optional): To show now-playing album art, track titles, and playback controls on music widgets, Slate uses Android's Notification Listener API to read active media sessions on your device.
No Account Required: Slate does not require an account, email address, phone number, or login credentials to use.
All information accessed by Slate is processed locally on your phone for the sole purpose of operating the app's features:
Rendering real-time clocks, weather updates, battery levels, notes, and system stats on your home screen.
Displaying ambient clock faces and glanceable information while your phone is docked or charging in Desk Mode.
Saving your visual preferences, theme colors, and layout customizations in local device storage.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not use third-party analytics trackers, ad networks, or data brokers.
Weather Services: When weather widgets refresh, your coordinates or selected city are sent to open weather API providers strictly to retrieve forecast data.
Google Play Services: Slate uses standard Google Play infrastructure for app distribution, updates, and OS-level crash reporting.
Legal Disclosure: We will only disclose information if strictly required by law or a valid court order. Because Slate does not maintain user account databases, we do not store identifiable personal records.
All custom widget layouts, saved notes, color themes, and settings are stored locally on your device within Slate's private app sandbox.
You have complete control over your data. You can reset your configurations at any time using 'Clear Cache' or 'Reset Settings' in the app's Settings screen, or by clearing app storage in your Android system settings.
Uninstalling Slate permanently deletes all saved widget preferences from your device.
Slate is a general-audience utility app that does not collect personal information from any user, including children under 13 years of age. It complies with all applicable Google Play Families and privacy guidelines.
You have full control over what permissions Slate can access. You can grant or revoke permissions for Location, Contacts, Calendar, or Notifications at any time through your device's Android Settings.
If you choose not to grant a permission (such as Location for weather), other unrelated widgets (such as clocks, battery rings, and calculators) will continue to function normally.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect app updates or legal requirements. Any revisions will be reflected by the 'Last updated' date at the top of this page.
